Le caractère de l’Akita Américain

Les aplombs chez l’Akita Américain
The character of the American Akita
Loyal and protective of his family, he can also be reserved in his relationship with humans. Above all, he is a sensitive dog who requires a balanced education without force or domination.

First of all, it's essential to remember that the American Akita is a primitive dog (see article on primitive dogs), a particularly large animal with a unique character.
Loyal and protective of its family, it can also be reserved in its relationship with humans. It is above all a sensitive dog that requires a balanced education without force or domination. Regarding its training, if it doesn't perceive meaning or coherence in requests, it won't obey and can then be very stubborn. If I pay particular attention to working on the character of my dogs by combining socialization and training from a young age, it's so as not to face dogs who can sometimes be a little tough and decisive. When it's very young, it has a more playful nature, open to others. I therefore take advantage of this moment to educate and socialize it properly, teach it the basics of good behavior towards its owners and give them basic instructions. While he loves to lounge around, he's still a dog that needs exercise to release his energy. It's also a good time to share a special moment and work on his relationships with others, particularly with his fellow dogs, with whom he can have a strained relationship.
The American Akita is loyal to his owner; however, his tolerance threshold is low, which requires caution, especially around children. While this is one of the aspects I work on to make him more accommodating and able to adapt to his environment, the fact remains that he can react harshly depending on the situation. It is therefore essential to learn to read and respect the dog's communication signals, which are nonetheless very subtle in the American Akita. Act relaxed by stopping the moments when he freezes. If you sense he's tense, a firm NO and a reassuring gesture will help him understand that his behavior is neither acceptable nor necessary.
The more situations you confront him with as a child, the higher his tolerance threshold will be as an adult.
I will support you throughout your dog's life and provide you with the right advice to keep him balanced. 100% of my clients recognize the work I do on behavior and the results of our approach on character.
